Hydrangea Love!⁣ -⁣ When I think of summer flo

When I think of summer flowers I think about hydrangeas, probably because they bloom like crazy in front of our house. We have pretty acidic soil so ours are blue and beautiful. This year they are just starting to come out and I can't wait to cut some for our kitchen table.⁣
-⁣
To make hydrangeas last longer cut them when they are just about in full bloom and immediately put them in water. Be sure to remove all of the leaves. Once inside smash the ends so that the flower can soak up as much water as possible. Hydrangeas will benefit from flower food and having their water changed every other day. They will look beautiful in a white pitcher on your table.

We got our tomato trellis walls put in this weekend and it seems like the tomatoes have just taken OFF!! They were just waiting for us... how nice.⁣

Most of the tomatoes we grow and probably most of the tomatoes you grow are indeterminate tomatoes. Meaning they will produce fruit as long as they are given the nutrients and support they need. That being said, they can grow over 7 feet tall!!⁣
-⁣
Finding a way to steak them and support them is imperative. We went with trellis walls and couldn't be happier. Check out our YouTube to see how we did this.

We went strawberry picking today and it was amazing!! Not only did the kids have fun, they were well behaved and the weather was great!!

On a funnier note... he made the first pile because he thought granddad was going to get the chipper. He was bummed and started crying when he learned that we weren't getting the chipper for such a small pile.

Some new faces around here so I figured I would introduce myself.⁣

I'm Deeanne, mama to 4 plus Ru our chocolate lab. My husband Jamie and I are "using our waiting room, as a classroom" and learning everything we can about homesteading. We are starting small with one project at a time. Currently, we are working hard on our gardens to get them going. We will be growing cut flowers (which we hope to sell) and tomatoes for canning this year. ⁣

This monarch has flown north maybe from Mexico or Texas and has stopped in Maryland to lay her eggs. She will lay hundreds and then quietly find a place to "rest".⁣
-⁣
Her offspring will hatch and eat loads of milkweed until they are big enough to soars like their mother. They will travel north to Canada and stay for the summer. ⁣
-⁣
When the days get cooler a new wave of Monarchs will fly south and we will get to see them again. ⁣
-⁣
We will patiently wait...
